Högbo Brukshotell

I grew up in the North of Sweden and my family still live there. This means that at least once a year me and my fiance travel 1600 kilometers by car to visit them (and then another 1600 to get ourselves back home again). Usually, we take a break half way to sleep and eat and that is exactly what we did at Högbo Brukshotell this summer.

Högbo Brukshotell was recently awarded “Sweden’s Best Hotel Breakfast” and “Sweden’s Best Dessert” so our expectations were quite high when we arrived and made ourselves ready for dinner.

To start I had some pickled and marinated Baltic herring served with apples, common quail egg, chives, new potatoes and browned butter.

For main course my fiance had some chicken and I ordered rump-steak. Both dishes very tasty but I still don’t understand why the chicken is bought in from France.

The buffet of desserts were really astonishing, the only problem being that I just couldn’t taste everything - that would have been way too much, especially since I really wanted to have some room left for the cheese…

Altogether, we were quite satisfied with the meal. I would have liked a bit more local produce on the menu and I would have appreciated it if the waiter had told me a little about what was on my plate.

However, I’m sure we’ll be coming back another year when we’re in need of a place to sleep and eat.
